The members in our group have expertise is a number of fields, such as Complex Fluids, Soft-Matter Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Multiscale Analysis, Nanosciences, Calculus of Variations, Numerical Analysis, Materials Science, Stochastic Analysis, Mathematical Biology, and Scientific Computing.

One of the key aspects of our Applied Mathematics group is its interdisciplinary nature, which is enhanced by a large number of opportunities across campus. The members of our group are core faculty of the Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) Program, and maintain close collaborations with faculty in the Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Chemistry departments. In addition, the Applied Mathematics Group also has a partnership with the Complex Fluids Design Consortium. At UCSB there are annual programs at some of the research centers on campus in which both faculty and student participate, and which attract a large number of international researchers. These centers include the Materials Research Lab (MRL), the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP), and the California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI).
