Textbook: Analysis with an Introduction to Proof, Steven R. Lay

Course Description: The goal of this course is to become comfortable working with mathematical definitions and with writing proper proofs. The material introduced will be on some basic concepts of analysis, including some set theory, properties of real numbers, sequences and limits, and possibly limits and continuity of functions.

Homework: There will usually be two problem sets due each week, to be turned in at the beginning of class on Wednesdays and Fridays. To prevent you from writing down proofs that you know are not logical, if you write down the statement of the problem and leave the proof blank, you will receieve 40% of the credit for the problem.

Quizzes: There will usually be a quiz every week in class, often covering definitions.

Midterms: There will be one midterm on Wednesday, Nov. 8th.

Final Exam: The final exam will be on Saturday, December 16th, from 12-3pm.

Grading:
Class Participation: 10%
Homework & Quizzes: 20% each
