While the textbook is not strictly necessary, it is recommended as homework problems are based off of problems from the text.  Moreover, the textbook also has practice exams in the back that you may find useful.  If you decide to not get the textbook, please check the class website for images and graphs required for your homework.

Discussion Sections
Attendance at discussion sections is mandatory. There will be quizzes in section throughout the summer session.

Adding the Class
If you would like to add the course, please put your name on the waiting list at http://math.ucsb.edu/ugrad/index.php. In the meantime, you are welcome to attend lecture and discussion section as long as seats are available. If you are added to the class late, you will need to talk to me or a TA to be registered on Webwork. Any work missed will be based on your work done after adding.

Incompletes
If you cannot complete the course due to illness, family tragedy, or some other serious reason, you will need me to sign an incomplete form. As I must first consult with the department vice chair before signing such a form, please see me as early as possible if you wish to receive an incomplete.

Missing Exams and the Flu
If you miss a midterm or quiz due to illness, please bring a note from a medical worker or someone in a position of responsibility to me or Luis. Even better, if you know you will miss a midterm or quiz, please let me or Luis know before the event. In either case, at our discretion, you will be given an average for the missed work based on work you did. There are NO make-up exams.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to see me after lecture or write me an e-mail.
