Text: Calculus and Mathematical Reasoning for Life and Social Sciences, D. Cooper

Homework: Homework will be due twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:59pm, except for the first Tuesday of the session. All homework due on Tuesdays will be from the material covered on the previous Thursday and Friday, and all homework due on Fridays will be from the material covered on the previous Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. There will be no late homework accepted. You are encouraged to work together on the homework.

All homework will be done via WebWork. Your default user name and password are your Perm #. If you can't login, either because you aren't on the WebWork list or you forgot your password, let me know and I'll address the issue as soon as possible. All problems on WebWork come directly from the text, so you will probably find it useful to have a copy of the text for reference - however, it isn't strictly necessary. Be warned, however, that some problems use random numbers, so your problem may differ slightly from the version in the book or the version given your peers. I will be more than happy to offer homework help via email, however, I will not respond to emails regarding homework that are sent within 3 hours of the due time. So, if you email me on Friday at 9:00pm about the homework due that night, I will ignore it. Be sure to look at your homework early so you know what questions you need help with early!

Exams: There will be two exams, a midterm and a final. The midterm will be given in class on Friday, July 13th, and the final will be given in class on the last day, Friday, August 3rd. The final will not be cumulative in the sense that there will not be problems on it that could have been solved with only the techniques covered before the midterm, but you will still be responsible for that material due to the cumulative nature of mathematics. You will be allowed a non-graphing calculator for the exam as well as a 3x5 notecard, though the exams will be written so that a calculator isn't necessary. No cell phone calculators are allowed, either. No makeup exams will be given. The exam problems will resemble the problems on the homework, so if you do the homework, and more importantly, understand your solution, you will do fine on the exams.

Grading: I plan to assign grades on a straight 90-80-70 scale. That is, 98-100% will be an A+, 92-98% an A, 90-92% an A-, 88-90% a B+, and so on. However, if it proves necessary, I will scale the grades so that half of the students get a B- or better, though I doubt it will be necessary. The weights of the homework and tests are as follows:
Homework20%
Midterm30%
Final50%

Help: In addition to my office hours, the MathLab will be open Monday through Thursday from 11am-4pm and Friday from 12-3pm. The MathLab is in SH 1607 and is staffed by two mathematics graduate students there to offer you help for free. Also, I believe CLAS is offering summer help, which you may want to look into. Lastly, I will use the first part of class on Mondays and Thursdays to answer questions on the homework due the following Tuesday and Friday, respectively.

Academic Dishonesty: Any act of academic dishonesty is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. You may work together on homework, but all other work must be done on your own.
