When writing up the hand-in homeworks, do at least the following:
(i) Include a version of the problem
statement so that a reader can tell what you are doing without looking to other materials. You don't have to formally state a problem, you might begin something like. "Let xxx . We show that -- ."
(ii) Explain any notation that you use.
(iii) Use complete sentences - and try for good sentences! Make it fun and easy to read.
(iv) Turn in a good looking document.
Only a very few problems can actually be graded, and then presentation will count, per the above. Remember that "Don't Turn In" problems, or analogues of them, and the definitions they contain, will occur on quizzes and exams.

The day to day assignments are below. The global plan is, approximately, text, Chapter 1 except for sections 7, 9, some of Chapter 2, and, if we are lucky, some of Chapter 3. We will not do Chapter 1 and then Chapter 2, rather, we will develope them simultaneously. You can read in Chapter 2 as we do Chapter 1, but my intention is that you focus your attention on what is done in lecture.
