Dear Prof.

We would very much like to invite you to give one of the main lectures in
the "Santa Barbara Summer Conference in Geometry" to be held on the campus
of University of California, Santa Barbara from July 21 to July 24, 1999.

The conference is organized by the geometry group of UCSB together with
Kefeng Liu of Stanford University, under the advisory of R. Bott, I. Singer,
E. Witten and S. T. Yau. The main goals of the conference are twofold: first,
bringing together the leading experts, to survey the recent remarkable
progress in geometry and topology, to report the current
developments, and to point to new directions of research;
seocnd, further stimulating the fruitful interactions between mathematics
and physics. For these purposes, the conference is coordinated
with the three-week program "Workshop on Geometry and Physics"
from July 26 to August 13, in the Institute of Theoretic Physics, UCSB.

The tentative list of invited principal speakers includes
J.-M. Bismut, R. Bott, R. Bryant, J. Cheeger, Y. Eliashberg, K. Fukaya, M.
Gromov,
J. Li, K. Liu, D. McDuff, D. Morrison, T. Mrowka, D. Phong, G. Segal,
R. Stern, C. Taubes.

We have received partial financial support for the conference from UCSB
and NSF.

To cover your expense, we expect to be able to pay you $$. (This is
under the assumption that you'll receive financial support
from ITP for your participation in the ITP program.)

We very much hope that you can accept the invitation and would appreciate
a response at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely yours,

Xianzhe Dai

our conference schedule accordingly: July 21-24.

Currently we have Bismut, Eliashberg, Fukaya, Morrison, Phong, Segal,
Taubes, Zhang, Weinstein confirmed, Cheeger, Gromov to be decided.

For your reference we have enclosed the invitation letter below.

Dear Prof. Fukaya,

although there still remain approximately
two months before our "Santa Barbara Summer
Conference in Geometry" takes place, the title
of your talk can be of great use now for those
who are planning on attending the conference.
Therefore we would appreciate it very much
if you could send us the title of your talk now.
If you are not yet sure, then a tentative title
would also be very nice.

I am attaching below some information on accomodations.
Should you need any assistance on hotel reservation
or other matters, please don't hesitate to contact me.

More information about the conference and Santa
Barbara can be found in our webpage dedicated to
the conference. You can find the webpage by going to

By the way, I'd like to mention that the NSF
funding for the conference we mentioned in the
invitation letter has already been approved, as
was expected.

We look forward to seeing you here in July.

Sincerely,

Conference in Geometry to be held in July 21-24, 1999. I am
happy to inform you that the conference will be able to reimburse you
up to $$$$ for travel and lodging. In order to process the
reimbursement form, we will need the original ticket receipt and hotel bill
(not the credit card charge slip). You can either give it to me the last day of
the conference or send it in by mail.

Should you decide not to come, I would appreciate it if you could let
me know AS SOON AS possible so that the funding may be appropriately
redirected.

Because of limited funds our support is based on an estimate for lodging on
double occupancy. You can either arrange a roommate yourself or the hotels
can arrange it with other conference participants.

More information about lodging, the conference and Santa Barbara can be found in
our webpage dedicated to the conference. You can find the webpage by going to
www.math.ucsb.edu/Seminars.html, and looking for
"Santa Barbara Summer Conference in Geometry",
or going directly to www.math.ucsb.edu/~wei/meeting/meeting.html.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference!
