The Polymath Seminar is a weekly graduate student seminar which is designed to promote diversity and equity in the math department. Each week, we will have a panel, workshop, or discussion pertaining to graduate school and beyond.

10/9/2023: We had a panel on graduate school advice. We talked about finding an advisor that fits your personality. We also talked about what happens after grad school, whether industry or academia.

10/16/2023: We had a discussion on finding motivation when you're struggling to solve hard problems (whether math or otherwise). We talked about what we do for fun and how this helps us refresh our mind to continue working on math.

10/23/2023: We had a panel on postdoctoral positions. We discussed what is expected of postdocs, teaching vs. research positions, how expectations vary by position, and advice for applying for postdocs.

10/30/2023: We had a discussion on privilege. We discussed how privilege affects our relationship with struggling students, how poverty and other invisible issues might affect their success, and how we work to overcome this.

11/13/2023: We had a discussion on non-standard teaching styles. We discussed what goals teachers and students have and how to achieve all of these goals in a fair way for everyone.
