The M.S. students satisfy the requirements for a M.S. degree with a CSE emphasis by taking the core with grade of B and better in each course and satisfying the requirements for a M.S. degree in their department. If a student does not earn a grade of B or better he or she can retake the course or substitue an alternative course with a grade of B or better. The Ph.D. students must take the core, with the same grade requirement, and write a CSE Ph.D. dissertation. They satisfy the requirements for a Ph.D. with a CSE emphasis by in addition satisfying the requirements for a Ph.D. degree in their department. Detailed graduation requirements for the emphasis in each department are attached. The departmental Graduate Advisors are still responsible for advising the students who are in the emphasis and they send a memo to the Graduate Division when the student has satisfied the requirements for a degree.
