The majority of resources can and will build upon infrastructure already in place in the home departments of the participating faculty. The Graduate Emphasis in Computational Science and Engineering requires minimal additional resources for its establishment.
To put these requirements in perspective, we note that the CSE program at University of Illinois, which is based on a model very similar to our proposal and has been highly successful in attracting students and in stimulating faculty collaboration resulting in large multidisciplinary research grants, has from its inception received direct annual support from UIUC for 3 administrative staff members and 8 graduate fellowships. The Director (and founder) of that program is adamant that he could not have succeeded without that support.
