Office space for the participating CSE faculty will continue to be the responsibility of their home departments. The CSE Emphasis would require some offices for the Director and staff for the administration of the Emphasis. Ideally, the Emphasis would be able to provide contiguous office space for the participating graduate students: to foster communications and a sense of identity with the program. This is especially critical for a multidisciplinary program such as CSE, where students from computer science and mathematics oriented primarily on the development of new algorithms and tools can both benefit from and be benefitted by close cooperation with computational students in engineering and science. There would also be important benefits from a common meeting space (conference room) for the Emphasis. We intend to hold weekly Brown Bag lunch Seminars to share research goals and experiences, as well as many informal meetings discussing engineering and scientific problems and their solution.
