Lectures: MWF, 10:00-10:50am, Arts 1247

Office Hours: Mon., Wed., Fri. 11:00-12:00 (or at 1pm), Thurs. 2:30-3:30, or by appointment. You must come by my office hours at least once before the drop date, Friday April 27th!
The TA for the course will have office hours in the Math Lab (SH 1607) Thursday evenings from 5-7pm, and an office hour in SH 6432P on Tuesdays, 1:30-2:30pm.

Textbook: Analysis with an Introduction to Proof, Steven R. Lay

Course Description: The goal of this course is to become comfortable working with mathematical definitions and with writing proper proofs. The material introduced will be on some basic concepts of analysis, including some set theory, properties of real numbers, sequences and limits, and possibly limits and continuity of functions.

Homework and Quizzes: There will be one or two problem sets each week; the problems will be posted on the course website and should be turned in by the beginning of class on the due date. Also, there will usually be a quiz every week in class, often covering definitions, simple examples, or specific proofs.

Midterms: There will be one midterm, tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 11th.

Final Exam: The final exam will be on Monday, June 11th, from 8-11am.

Grading:
Class Participation: 10%
Homework & Quizzes: 20% each
Midterm: 25%
Final: 25%
