UCSB Math Summer Research Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program features:

labs on matlab programming.
labs on latex and beamer programming.
professional development workshops (example for previous years).
research project.
seminars on different topics in mathematics (example from previous years)
Elevator pitch contest
participation in poster conference.
participation at the YMC conference.
weekly presentations.
social activities.

During the first week of the program, the students will attend short workshops on how to program in LaTeX, how to do a presentation in Beamer and Power Point, and how to program in Matlab.

The students will be divided into small groups and will be assigned a research project as well as a research mentor.

Every Friday, each research group will give a presentation on the progress in their research project. Every week, these presentations will be followed by lunch or preceded by breakfast.

Once a week, a research faculty will give a talk on some interesting mathematical topic.

"Linear preservers of lorentz spectrum" (Prof. Bueno)
"Recovering knot polynomials from graphs" (Prof. Kumar and Molander)
Geometric group theory project. (Prof. Manin and Merkl)
