Prerequisite: MAT 8
Required Textbook: Introductory Combinatorics
(Fifth Edition) by Richard A. Brualdi. Prentice Hall. 2009.
Course Topics: We will
more-or-less follow Brualdi's
book (parts of chapters 2, 3, 6, 7, and possibly 8).
Grades: Your final grade will
be comprised of
- Midterm Exam 30%
- Final Exam 50%
- Graded Homework 20%

Homework: You will solve
assigned problems from Brualdi's book.
See the homework page for
assignments. You are expected to work all
assigned problems, and to turn in selected problems for grading. You
are
encouraged to work on problems with other students in this class as
long as each person in the group is an active participant; the final
solutions to problems will be formulated and written individually!
The
final
write-up
should
be
neat
and
legible.
You
may
type
your
solutions
(preferably
in
LaTeX,
or
similar);
in
this
case,
you
will
handwrite
"I
typed
this
document
myself"
with your signature next to it (at the top of the first page);
otherwise, the homework will not
be accepted.
Midterm Exam: This is
tentatively scheduled for Thursday July 8, 2010 during 2-2:50 PM. This exam will be a
"closed book",
"closed notes" exam. No calculators may be used during this exam.
Final Exam: This is scheduled
for Thursday July 29, 2010 during 2-3:20 PM. This exam
will be a "closed book", "closed
notes" exam. No calculators may
be used during this exam.
